The topic for this term paper deals with the novels, issues, and warnings of Ald

The topic for this term paper deals with the novels, issues, and warnings of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and 1984 by George Orwell. Please note that these topics differ from the Fall semester paper. Plagiarism from another student will result in a zero and a major violation. Big Brother is watching.
The paper must address all of the following parts to receive full credit.
Part 1: On society… 4-5 pages
Choose three of the following societal elements and compare and contrast how each novel portrays these elements and how they are used to maintain power over the people: lack of privacy, substance addiction, the quest for power, impressionability of children, or things used to distract the society. What point does each author make about society with each of the elements you choose? Use each book and outside research to help explain each author’s ideas of the elements you choose.
As you examine Orwell and Huxlley’s view of society, also comment on each author’s view of human nature. Remember that Orwell and Huxley were observers of human nature (as is any good author). What did each author think of human nature as exemplified in their comments on society?
Use specific examples from the books and be sure to go deeper into your comparisons and contrasts than just the superficial explanation. Here you not only want to focus on the primary sources of 1984 and BNW, but use outside sources to find out what each author thought of humanity as a whole.
Part 2: On pop culture… suggested 1-2 pages
There are many movies, songs, and video games based on the ideas from 1984 and Brave New World. Find two examples, one from 1984 and one from BNW, from differing forms of media and analyze each. For example, you can choose a movie based on 1984 and a video game based on Brave New World. Analyze the two you choose and how they tie into their respective story. DO NOT use movies titled 1984 or Brave New World. Remember, this is an analysis and not a plot summary. You CAN NOT use two of the same genre for analysis. For example, you can use a song for BNW, but you will have to use a movie or video game for 1984.
Some suggestion:
Movies: Brazil, Sleeper, The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Logan’s Run, Equilibrum, Pleasentville, The Trueman Show
Songs related to BNW: “Soma” by The Stokes, “Soma” by Smashing Pumpkins, “Brave New World” by Iron Maiden, “In the Year 2525” by Zager and Evans
Songs related to 1984 “1984” by David Bowie, “Testify” by Rage Against the Machine, “Eye in the Sky” by Alan Parsons Project, “Dream Police” by Cheap Trick.
Part 3: This is the argumentative portion of the paper… suggested 1-2 pages
Which book is a more accurate portrayal of the society we now live? Explain and prove your point of view with specific details from each book and examples to make your points. There must be and even balance between 1984 and Brave New World. Papers that focus too heavily on one work of literature will lose points. Remember, try to persuade the reader to agree with your argument. Here your answer will not only focus on elements found in the book but also focus on current events. National newspapers and business or news magazines will help to answer this part of the essay.
Aim for having BNW read by February 1 because it will need to be included in your outline.
