South Park

This semester you have evaluated advertisements and film as cultural artifacts. You have revealed what they say about our culture in terms of social norms, anxieties, values, beliefs, etc. This paper asks you to apply the same analysis to the television series South Park. How do the South Park episodes we watched in class reflect our social norms, anxieties, values, beliefs, etc. as they pertain to issues of race and social status? Does the show try to influence our position on these issues? If so, how does it do this? How does the show indicate this position? (This would be their thesis/position/ argument) How do they support these positions or ideas? Explain in detail. Quote the episode. Be mindful of symbolic content (semiotics). Symbolic content needs to be interpreted and is an excellent opportunity to develop analysis. Do research to further investigate this issue or event. What isn’t the show telling us? Was the issue or event controversial? Did others address this controversy? You might want to use these commentaries as sources in your work. Try to draw some conclusions about the argument. Was is compelling? Why or why not?The paper is to be four pages minimum, typed, and in a professional 12pt font. It is to include a works cited page and is to be presented in MLA format.
