For the second class paper, you will conduct and analyze an interview.
Here are the interview guidelines:
The interviewee must be an adult (18+) that you know.
You will utilize the interview questions that you created for the book analysis paper.
You can build on and modify your book analysis questions.
You may not ask your interviewee graphic or potentially uncomfortable questions about their sex life.
You should ask questions that are related to the major themes of your chosen book.
Questions should reveal their experiences, perspectives, and attitudes, and goals.
You can ask additional questions about their life histories, romantic relationship histories, family experiences, and intimacy goals to flesh out your knowledge of their experiences.
Your interview should be 60 – 90 minutes long.
You should record your interview.
Part One of your paper is a 3-page narrative description of your interviewee’s experiences / perspectives. This is where you describe your interviewee’s story in chronological or thematic format. In this portion of the paper, take your interview transcript and re-write in narrative format.
Part Two of the paper is a 3-page analysis. You will connect your interviewee’s story to the sexuality topics and trends that we have discussed in class and that were covered in your chosen book.. You need to provide your interpretation of why your interviewee’s life unfolded as it did – for instance, what factors affected your interviewee’s perspectives on adolescent relationships? What factors may have played a role in shaping their present-day motivations or dispositions?
In Part Two, you need to utilize your chosen book and 4 additional class articles (either from the textbook or those assigned in the syllabus).
When utilizing the book and articles, be sure to include the following:
Summarize the relevant portion of the article / book in your own words. This summary should be at least three sentences long.
If you include a quote, in the next sentence you need to summarize the quote and highlight its significance. If its significance seems self-evident, then the quote is not important enough to include.
Be sure to directly connect readings / articles / book themes / quotes to the point you are making about your interviewee.
Please pay attention to the following:
Include 4-7 direct quotes from your chosen book, and 1+ direct quotes from each of your selected articles. Be sure to summarize and analyze these quotes. Discuss the quotes, books, and articles in terms of the argument you are making in your paper.
The paper should be 6-pages (1750+ word), DS, Times New Roman, regular margins.
The paper should have an intruduction & conclusion.
The paper should be well-organized, grammatically correct.
