Gold Star families are those that lost an immediate member during military service (Wallace, 2018). Immediate family includes siblings, parents, spouse and children. The official Army website has a page dedicated to these families, acknowledging and reminding fellow service members and their loved ones that no one has sacrificed more for their country than they did (Wallace, 2018). In 1947, Congress authorized the gift of official Gold Star lapel buttons to families of those who died at memorial services. It all meant the family made the ultimate sacrifice.
